Fantasy sports is big business. Between pay-for-play leagues, magazines, “scouting” services, and TV and radio talk shows, fantasy sports accounts for billions of dollars in revenue. An estimated 30 million people played fantasy sports according to a survey conducted by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association in 2007, and that number is sure to have risen exponentially since that time. For many, fantasy football is the main focus. However, if you are a puck head, meaning you love hockey, you’re getting geared-up for fantasy hockey drafts as many teams in the NHL began training camps. Team Makeup Generally, fantasy hockey teams…

Dear Alex, You suck! Ok, let me back up. You were a very good quarterback in college. Taking Utah, with Urban Meyer as your head coach, in that gimmicky offense to a BCS game was impressive. You used a once-proud franchise like the 49ers to get rich quick with your smoke and mirrors.  You knew that you didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to run a pro offense.  You knew that you couldn’t scramble around in the NFL like you did in college. Yet, somehow, you suckered the Yorkes into drafting you too high and spending far too much money on…

Couch Potato Blitz This week in “CPB,” I will give you something to think about in fantasy football – start’em/sit’em.  For the people who don’t get enough enjoyment from just watching the games I will produce the three best betting lines of the weekend.  Finally I will end with my picks for all of the action – Everyone’s favorite dog walker, Michael Vick, is going to get the start this weekend for the Carson Palmer seems like a nice guy, but when it comes to fantasy most people would play someone even if he stole from his grandma.  This week…

Do you ever find yourself finishing your plate and realizing you are not hungry anymore, but you continue to eat?  Many of us have an emotional and mental relationship with food.  When we are in a bad mood or sad, we continue to pick at the plate even though we are completely full. Others of us have been on diet after diet and have forgotten how to enjoy food, and then how to stop when we are finished.  We need to remember that feeling of satisfaction and then how to let food go. First Steps The first step is realizing…

The Deadlift: Minimum Effort, Maximum Results Deadlifts are an essential exercise when it comes to working out. They are foremost a lower-back exercise, but they work your entire backside from your glutes to your neck. The deadlift engages your entire core and all of the muscles in your legs. It also is an exercise with real-life application as the exercise mimics something many of us do all day long — bending over to pick things up! The high intensity of the deadlift will exhaust every muscle in your body. However, a deadlift can be dangerous if it is executed incorrectly.…

With big quarterbacks playing big games this weekend I think it’s a fair question: Who is the best quarterback in college football? I heard someone make a good point today.  We’re not talking about pro potential — we’re just talking about who’s the best in right now.  I might have left your guy off the list, but you’re welcome to chime in if I missed your favorite. If I wanted to talk about who would be the best in the NFL we could close this conversation with Jake Locker right now.  Locker’s great, but his team isn’t going to wow…

Wheatgrass is the leafy plant that grows in the early stages of a wheat plant. It is very alkaline, and may also be suitable for individuals who suffer from wheat intolerances. It has a very sweet, potent flavor, but it is generally palatable when downed in one quick gulp. Wheatgrass is one of the super foods that celebrities rave about. It is a living food with an abundant supply of chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, and up to 30 live enzymes. Chlorophyll is a fantastic immune system booster due to its rich antioxidant properties, plus it is a whole food because it…

Los Angeles Angel’s manager Mike Scioscia stirred up conversation about shortening the Major League Baseball season.  According to the Orange County Register, Scioscia came up with two interesting concepts when asked about the length of the baseball season last week. “If you went to 154 games, you would lose a lot of gate revenue. But if you blend it – cut down some games and some dates, to minimize the impact, you could tighten the schedule by a week to 10 days to accommodate an expanded division series and get the World Series done in October like it should be.”…

Shia LaBeouf is one of those guys in Hollywood who comes out of nowhere — he starred in Even Stevens — and now he’s a mega-action-star.  Since he jumped as Jerry in Eagle Eye and took a turn as the spawn of Indiana Jones he’s been in great shape. With most of these actors I profile I find that they have relatively commonplace ways of doing things and a really strange method of implementation.  Shia has neither.  This is about as straightforward as it gets. If you read my piece on MMA workouts then you’ll remember that a reference was…

Dr. Scott Connelly wants the world to believe he’s the foremost authority on health and nutrition, particularly when it comes to protein science. He’s best known as the creator of MET-Rx, the popular meal replacement that became a sensation in the 90’s, and was endorsed by star athletes, including Troy Aikman. On the verge of bankruptcy, Connelly sold MET-Rx to the Shansby Group for $10 million. Shansby turned around and sold it for $108m to Rexall Sundown in 1999.  Scott Connelly resurfaced only to fail miserably, attempting to sell protein enriched dog food, K9-Rx, using his signature, shirtless ab-shot next…
