With the 2010-2011 National Hockey League season opening on October 7, it is time get you ready for the upcoming season. The NHL’s Western Conference features some powerful teams, including three of the past four Stanley Cup championships, headlined by last year’s Cup winner, the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks, having been purged of much talent in the off-season due to salary cap restrictions, are still a legitimate threat to repeat but a whole host of teams are on their tails (or tail feathers). The Vancouver Canucks seem poised to compete, as are the always dangerous Detroit Red Wings, San Jose…

Last week John posed a completely fair question:  Would you want your son to play football?  Actually, it’s more like: “Would you let your son play football knowing he could get a multitude of concussions?” Well, I’m really not sure, but I do know some things about the NFL.  I know how the NFL works, and I know how guys have played since 1983 (when I really started caring.) Will the behavior of football players lead us to an answer?  I think it will! Football players are easy to read even though they wear helmets and you can make clear…

For the second time in a week reports are surfacing about, Tour de France winner Alberto Contador testing positive for performance enhancing substances. First, according to Contador’s own admission last week, he tested positive for clenbuterol. This is not a steroid, but an anabolic agent used for weight-loss and muscle-building. Contador claims that this positive test came from tainted beef. The second allegation stems from a new test that detects chemical called plasticizers. These chemicals are found in plastic IV bags and can prove that an athlete is using blood transfusions to boost endurance. Blood transfusions are banned by the…

I had a baby this week — my fourth. She and I are both perfectly healthy and happy to be at home with my husband and the other kiddos. That said, a journey of another sort begins in the next few days, the one to getting back into pre-pregnancy shape yet again. I freakishly gain 50 to 70 pounds with each pregnancy, and this was no exception. While frustrating, I’ve come to accept that my body needs to do what it needs to do to grow healthy babies, which is my highest priority. Join me as I go from obese…

Not everyone likes the body shape they were born with, but there are ways to shape and tone your body to make the most of what you have.  In my last article, we discussed how you could slim down and tone a pear shape body.  Today we will discuss the “apple” body type and how proper diet and exercise together can give you the body you want. The apple body frame is distinguished by having a bigger top half followed by a lean bottom half.  Apples tend to store fat around their midsection, like chest, abdomen, and stomach.  The good…

Sluggers and Slugs: League Division Series The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season has ended, and the post-season Cincinnati at Philadelphia The Reds got a tough draw in the first round by catching the Phillies. Not only has this team represented the NL in the World Series the past two years, but they have added the “Roy Boys,” Halladay and Oswalt. It doesn’t stop at pitching for the Phillies: They are complemented by a very dynamic lineup lead by Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard.  Like most teams in baseball, they battled injuries this season, but got everyone…

If you study the kama sutra, you will notice there are an abundant variety of women friendly sex positions. However, which of them are truly the most satisfying for women? As a sexual experimenter, I am going to describe my favorite sexual positions that really do enhance female pleasure. A good sexual position for a woman allows for clitoral stimulation, deep penetration to stimulate the g-spot, and romantic kisses with her partner. Missionary The missionary position is perhaps the most common sexual position, but it can be altered to enhance female pleasure in many ways. Place your legs on top…

Hi, we’re the Atlanta Braves, and we screw things up! We’ve been doing it for a long time, but this is what we do. In the 90′s we were the best-run franchise in baseball — not to mention nearly all of professional sports, aside from the 49ers under the DiBartolos. We had John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox pumping out talent like you wouldn’t believe. They won no matter what. We abused the baseball IQ of these gentlemen for 15 years by only winning one World Series and losing four others. Frankly, we’re surprised that Marquis Grissom caught the final out…
