Juicing has a wealth of health benefits, including cleansing the internal cell walls of toxins, creating abundant vitality, combating depression, ridding you of the pain of arthritis, cleansing the liver, and healing the skin, just to name a few. However, it is important to know which vegetables blend well to get the most from your juicing experience. Juicing is beneficial for the body because it gives the digestive system time to rest. This has several benefits. The colon is fully cleansed of old undigested food, and when the abundant phytonutrients in the fruit and vegetables nourish the body with nutrition,…
Isn’t Nike in the business of selling sneakers and athletic gear? Nike has managed to conquer the globe with its products and leaving its signature Swoosh everywhere. They also happen to be a world-wide leader in image resurrection with their latest venture being the new LeBron James commercial, “What should I do?” Again this is Nike showing us their prowess in the public relations ring. Nike’s leading man took a huge hit in his fairing with fans after deciding to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat — mostly in the way he made his “decision” to leave the…
Here we go again! The baby is two weeks old, and it’s time to get back to the gym. It’s also time to start my counting calories and working my calorie cycle plan. Here goes! The Numbers I believe that goals should be SMART — Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Reasonable, and Time-bound. Because of that, I believe in demonstrating accountability with concrete numbers and not making excuses when I screw up. At two weeks postpartum the scale said 191.2. Tuesday was my birthday, and we went out to dinner. I made good choices in general, but the (cough) martini and salt…
Are you worried about your heart, cancer risk, or bone health? Of course you are, especially since cancer and heart disease are the top killers of Americans, and osteoporosis affects more than half of Americans over age 50. If you’re serious about disease prevention, you need to get serious about vitamin D. Vitamin D is an important nutrient found in fish, eggs, fortified milk, and cod liver oil. Many people aren’t getting enough of this vitamin and aren’t aware of the many health benefits it has on the human body. Vitamin D is made up of two components; vitamin D2…
Weekly Update This was my first full week back in the gym. I sat down with my trainer and we decided to do a training split that will be best suited for my partner and I in order to give us the best shot at bringing up our weakest body part — legs! We both need to add more size to our wheels and improve our quads sweep. At the NPC National Level, everyone has massive legs especially the SuperHeavyWeights. In order for me to take out the competition, my legs can no longer be my weakest body part. During this off-season I will be…

This week in the NHL saw suspensions from ugly incidents and vicious hits to the head, a new set of OT thrillers, and a lack of attendance in Phoenix, Anaheim, and Atlanta, though no one in those cities particularly cared. By week’s end, the past two Stanley Cup winners were rising near or at the top of their respective conferences, a hockey team in a market known more for strumming than stick-handling had compiled the most points, and a playoff regular was struggling just to get points. Suspensions Question: What happens when a player puts his hands on a fan?…
Once upon a time women were not as multi-faceted as they are today. Today’s women raise children and have careers. They are entrepreneurs, mothers, have PhDs and are wives all at the same time. One hand’s making dinner while the other’s closing a business deal. If the woman has a successful career and finds love, sometimes she can fall into the trap of becoming a sugar momma. If the guy lost his job or isn’t as far along in his career as he’d like to be, she might try to literally mother him in order to give him time to…
Even though Boston and Miami open Tuesday night we still have a ton of basketball to cover. The NBA’s opening week is not always about big match-ups and crazy games. In fact, sometimes the games are kind of boring. We don’t know how the “Miami Thrice” will gel because Wade has been out with an injury. Boston is old and they won’t hit their stride until the playoffs. However, there are other intriguing games later in the week that may point to how teams will fair this season. It’s unfair to judge any team solely on their first week of…
Brett Favre has been diagnosed with two separate stress fractures in his left ankle and as of now his status is uncertain for Sunday’s game against New England. Favre has started in a NFL record 291 consecutive regular season games. The injury was sustained during last Monday night’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. After taking a hit in the second half of the game, Favre was noticeably limping, but refused medical attention and opted to stay in the game. ESPN is reporting there is no surgery required and when head coach, Brad Childress was asked about Favre’s status for…
