Karate Champion Raymond Daniels may be headed back into Karate. His MMA debut against Jeremiah Metcalf did not go well and was another testament that the first M in MMA is very important. You have to be a very well rounded fighter to be competitive. Jeremiah Metcalf on the other hand brought the perfect game plan to the ring against such an accomplished striker and had an impressive showing. He consistently took Daniels out of his realm by taking the fight to the ground. Once on the ground Metcalf had his way with the Karate Champion. Watch the video to…
Australian scientists believe that coffee helps restore muscles after physical activity. The scientists conducted an experiment on professional cyclists and discovered a complex mechanism which restores the muscles much faster due to the coffee effect. The results of the study apply to other sports as well, particularly to bodybuilding. As it turns out, caffeine helps glucose get stored in the muscles faster and furthermore get turned into glycogen – the major energy source for the working muscle. During the study the sportsmen drunk 5-6 cups of coffee a day and consumed large quantities of carbohydrates. The scientists believe, however, that…
I hear lots of people ask how they can gain the physique and strength of an MMA fighter. The answer is hard work. Most of these professional fighters are in the gym at least 6 days a week. There is no secret to gaining strength, all you have to do is exercise your muscles regularly. That is the hard part for many people. It doesn’t happen over night, and anyone who does strength training will tell you that it is painful. You have got to stick with it for a long time. I found a simple, easy to follow workout…
UFC 87 has a great looking fight card. With Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch in the octagon at the same time, you may get a chance to see MMA at it’s best. St. Pierre as the current UFC Welterweight Champion has proven him self worthy of wearing the belt. However Jon Fitch, a very dangerous man, is looking to take his belt. Jon Fitch is no slouch. As Captain of the Purdue Wrestling Team, Jon Fitch’s has had plenty of time to perfect his ground game. Add some Jiu-Jitsu, fierce striking ability and phenomenal human strength and you have…
Fitness competitor Julie Coram has retained Rick Collins’ firm, Collins, McDonald & Gann, to represent her after she tested positive for metabolites of three different anabolic steroids, boldenone, oxandrolone and DHEA. The urinary metabolites were detected in a sample provided after winning the Ainsley McSorley FAME Model Search Championships in Winnipeg. As a result, Coram lost her pro card and was banned from future FAME World Tour events. Coram’s attorney Michael DiMaggio will undoubtedly expose FAME and World Natural Sports Organization (WNSO) for their incompent, inconsistent, hypocritical and ultimately meaningless attempt at achieving a “natural” and steroid-free physique competition. I’m obviously…
Rick Dutrow, horse trainer of Kentucky Derby and Preakness champion Big Brown, faces a 15-day suspension after one of his horses (Salute the Count) tested positive for twice the allowable levels of the beta-adrenergic agonist Clenbuterol in a post-race sample (”Dutrow Faces Steroid Ban,” June 25). Of course, even though Clenbuterol is NOT an anabolic steroid, the title of the New York Times article, (”Dutrow faces steroid ban”) suggests the suspension is related to anabolic steroids. The Times cited similarities between clenbuterol and anabolic steroids referring to clenbuterol’s steroidal properties even though the action of Clenbuterol is pharmacologically distinct from androgens. Dutrow…
Dan Henderson, is a tremendous fighter with an amazing amount of talent. Dan was at one time an Olympic Wrestler and was the only mixed martial artist to concurrently hold two titles in two different weight classes in a major MMA promotion. However, Henderson has been a bit down on his luck lately. Since returning to the UFC, Henderson is 0-2. Both his fights were title unification fights in which Quinton Jackson defeated Henderson to unify the UFC/PRIDE light heavyweight titles, and Anderson Silva defeated Henderson to unify the UFC/PRIDE middleweight title. Dan Henderson could soon get a chance to…
Sometimes what looks like a loss is actually a win. According to MMAonline Kim Couture has been extended an invitation to fight in the AFL. “The AFL is still very much interested in signing Kim Couture,” said AFL CEO, BJ Santiago. “We would be honored to have her on board.” “Kim had a tough loss in Las Vegas but she proved to the world that she’s got a fighter’s heart,” said Santiago. “Despite suffering a broken jaw on the first punch in the first round she fought like a lion and just kept going. The tenacity she displayed in the…
Curt James found an interesting video of former Gold’s Gym co-owner and CFO Ed Connors. Ed Connors is interviewed by IFBB pro bodybuilder David Dearth during the 2006 Olympia Weekend. Connors is disillusioned by the current state of professional bodybuilding, referring to it as a “freak show.” Well, I really feel that somehow I had this dream for bodybuilding and the gym business and I kind of see what’s on stage as sort of perversion of that. I’m not crazy about where bodybuilding is. I wouldn’t want to look like most of the guys on stage these days. I’d rather…
Anti-Doping Research Inc. (ADR) has been granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). ADR was founded by famed steroid hunter Don Catlin after he retired as the long-time director of UCLA Olympic Analytical Lab. Catlin is probably best known for his discovery of the previously undetectable designer steroid tetrahydrogestrinone (THG). This set in motion a chain of events that led to the BALCO steroid scandal which implicated athletes in various elite sports. ADR’s new status as a public charity will allow its contributors to claim a tax deduction for their donations. ADR is also developing innovative programs…
