I was introduced to kickboxing when I only had 45 minutes to work out. I wasn’t in the mood for a cardio-machine workout. A fellow member of my athletic club suggested I take the Kickboxing class. I hesitated at first. Then, I decide what the heck. I will give the class a try. My first class was exhilarating. Even though I didn’t do all the kicks and jabs properly, I got a great workout.  I have been hooked ever since. Kickboxing Never Boring Since that day I have had different instructors. I can honestly say if you have a good…

Group D is being cited as the ‘most one-sided’ group out of all the groups going to South Africa. Germany, with a world ranking of 6, are easily the superior team, with second-best team Serbia, at world ranking. Betting odds never looked so good, but it could be a Euro 2004 repeat, and the underdog could come out on top. Group D Germany Current World Ranking: 6 Three-times winners of the World Cup winners have won this tournament more times that any other team – except Brazil and Italy. They’ve been runners-up four times, and been in the semi-finals more…

The NBA has storylines galore as we head into the All-Star Break. Older teams are getting older. Younger teams are getting better. Contenders are nursing old wounds, and there’s one team that is seeing the end of an era. I’m picking 5 “key games” that will weave a few interesting tales going into the All-Star Game. We all know that the All-Star Game is fun, but watching teams stumble into the break is even more fun. Don’t be surprised if we have games coming up that look “boring”. Trust me when I say to you, “I don’t pick boring games”. …

Last time, we talked about keeping your resolutions.  If one of yours was running a race before the spring thaw, we need to talk about training in the weather! Why should you train outside?  First, you need to get used to the conditions of road running.  If you’er always on the treadmill, you’ll get shaken by new things on race day.  The proximity of cars, the barking of dogs, loose gravel, all can trip you up on your first few road runs.  And let’s not forget the hills! Sure, you can simulate incline on a treadmill, but you cannot run…

There are very few things in life that are perfect; the combination of peanut butter and chocolate in a Reese’s, J-Lo’s backside, and the NCAA College Basketball Tournament. Currently March Madness is 65 teams selected by a College Basketball committee (number crunching dorks). They have one play-in game, which only degenerate gamblers watch. People have recently started talking about expanding the tournament to 68 teams and adding four play-in games. Great, so now Long Beach Community College can play ITT Tech and the winner goes dancing. Yeah! If increasing to 68 isn’t enough, they have also thrown around the idea…

With the 2010 Winter Olympics opening soon the United States men’s hockey team looks at Vancouver as a fresh start, a chance for redemption. The 2006 Olympics in Torino were unkind to the Americans on the ice, as they finished a disappointing eighth just four years after claiming the silver in the 2002 Olympics held in Salt Lake City. With the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brian Burke calling the shots, the Americans hope for better fortunes this time around. Much like their neighbors to the north, the Americans hope to return to the medal podium when all is…

The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are just over a week away and all eyes will be riveted on Canada Hockey Place for the men’s Olympic hockey championships. Teams from twelve countries spanning the globe will do battle to try and claim the gold medal for their respective nations. The teams representing the USA, Canada, Sweden and Russia will be loaded with NHL talent and should be considered the odds on favorites to medal. The Czech Republic and Finland also will be fairly well represented as well. Teams like Germany, Belarus, Norway (which has never won a medal since hockey…

Most fans of mixed martial arts only know Seth Petruzelli as the “Kimbo Slayer”, but there is much more to the man than one fateful night on national television.  Seth competed on season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter and went 0-2 in the UFC with notable losses to Matt Hammil and Wilson Gouveia.  Outside the UFC, Seth has big victories against MMA legend Dan Severn and obviously Kimbo Slice.  I had the opportunity to interview Seth about his plans for the future and some of his upcoming fights. Note: The interview took place 2 days before it was announced that…

With the exception of major league baseball, no sport has as much upheaval at the trade deadline as the National Hockey League. This season, teams are faced with a double whammy as rosters freeze February 12th for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. By the time they unfreeze following the Olympics teams will have just 63 hours before the trade deadline hits to make any further moves. This short window makes right now a busy time for everyone across the league. There are a fair number of teams that are already rebuilding or stocking up for a playoff run. There…

I sat down to watch the Super Bowl last night in pieces.  We started at a restaurant for my birthday, and then again in the comfort of our home.  I didn’t make it to the final whistle because the game was over before then.  I didn’t care for the Saints and I don’t now, but I am very upset with Peyton Manning AND myself. I should have known better than to praise someone who had lost so many big games.  I should have known to look past the Colts’ Super Bowl win over the Bears in 2006. But… I stupidly…
