Do you have tight hip flexors? I’ve mentioned before that this is something that I struggle with from years of overuse and improper stretching. In the last two years, my hip flexors (iliopsoas) have bothered me to the degree that I am no longer able to cycle, kickbox, or do heavy squats at all, and can only run and dance a couple of times per week. Even with months of rest and attempted rehab, my hip flexors are tender when sitting and driving for long periods. What’s The Problem? For people who engage in repetitive motion exercises such as running…
I wanted to write this and since I am waiting on a good friend of Deadweight’s , who is willing to tell all the crappy things he has done as a MOD, I figured this would be a good time to rant about morals. I realize everyone make mistakes , but without taking responsibility for it , you are just self-righteous. Over the last few months I have dealt with several people like this. The problem is , these people have decent followings to enable them, they stand behind them even after they are proved wrong. Why does this happen? Why not…
It happens to everyone at some point. You have an injury. You become pregnant. Your body rebels. You hit the wall. Whatever it is, there’s an “it” for everyone. I know quite a few people who were into health and fitness at one point; running marathons, playing competitive tennis, lifting weights, and then something happened. Their worst-case scenario happened, and they quit. Change Up or Chicken Out? What makes the difference between someone who packs it in and gets flabby and complacent versus someone who finds something new? Two things, I think. First, having a vision. For me, this is…
The NFL may be the most successful of all the professional leagues in America, but it definitely does not have the smartest employees. Everyone has to fail sometime, but some organizations do it with such regularity I can’t help but watch and laugh. The great thing about bad teams in the NFL, is that every time they have a chance to capitalize from their negativity they only add to the disaster they already created. The St. Louis Rams could take some real strides in this year’s draft, but there may be to much weight on their shoulders. What can they…
Butler–Duke–West Virginia–Michigan State. We’ve got a Final Four that pretty much anyone can get behind. I love having basketball to watch where I don’t care who wins. I love watching games that will have a happy ending for me either way. Even if your team lost on the way to the Final Four it’s hard to deny that each of these teams would be a great National Champion. These aren’t the “We Carried Roy Williams” Tar Heels or the “We Like Being Completely Unlikable” Huskies of UCONN. This is the “We Can’t Believe We’re Here AND At Home” Butler Bulldogs. …
We’ve got teams scrambling left and right to make moves in this offseason that will benefit them. Are they really doing the “right thing” –as Spike Lee would say? My take on all of this can be summed up in a sentence: Don’t rock the boat unless you have to. Teams always tell the media things like, “We’re evaluating every part of organization” and “Anything less than a Championship is a failure”. Are those things always true? Have we really become such a “Succubae Sports Fan Base” that we need to have teams fall on the sword every year when…
I bet you struggle with poor digestion from time to time. How’d I guess? Elementary, my dear body builder. First, you eat few carbs, meaning you consume little fiber. Second, you change your diet frequently, throwing your system into mass confusion. Third, you supplement with things meant to bulk you, which often means water retention. Water retention means that water is redirected from your bowels to your muscles, causing your colon to become sluggish. Fourth, you often liven up that boring chicken with spicy things, subjecting you to heartburn. It’s a vicious cycle. Most estimates from the cleansing types will…
Let’s look at a typical Easter menu and talk about why it’s problematic. I’ve got some easy recipes that are lighter and healthier! Everyone loves a great holiday meal, but how you feel afterward often isn’t worth the momentary satisfaction. For me it’s not just about the possible weight gain. After all, I can work just about anything off. It’s more about the fact that it takes my digestive system a while to get back to normal after a meal like that. Heavy, greasy food causes problems from top to bottom, if you know what I mean. We all know…
Major League Baseballs 162 game schedule is a grind for any of the ball players. The fact that Cal Ripken Jr. played 2,632 consecutive games is one of the greatest accomplishments in sports. Spring Training allows these athletes to get in game action and clear away some of the cob webs before the start of the regular season. So the fact that some teams key players are spending time on the DL or missing valuable days due to injury may affect their chances of having a great season. Two of the worst injury excuses I have ever heard came from…
Urban Meyer has such a skewed view of the world that it confuses even me. I’m not surprised by a lot of stupid behavior in the world of sports, but Meyer’s stupidity is VAST. The story goes that Florida Wide Receiver Deonte Thompson said to a reporter: “You never know with Tim. You’ll think he’s running, but then he’ll just come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything’s with rhythm, time. Like, you know what I mean, a real quarterback.” The reporter quoted Thompson accurately on his blog and…
