Tonight the second season of Bellator took place live in the Chicago Theater.  There were a few last minute changes, but everyone made weight and all the new fights went on as scheduled.  Thankfully there were no baseball games on FSN this time so I got to watch the event live.  It was a very entertaining night of fights, albeit it did come with a little controversy. The first broadcasted fight of the night was a lightweight bout between Mike Ricci and Patrick Curran.  Ricci had a ton of hype coming in based on his undefeated record and more importantly,…

Baseball is a game of contradictions.  On one hand, we have games that have no time limit.  They are supposed to be the epitome of our national “pastime”–a game that is leisurely and fun. On the other hand, we have Major League Baseball trying everything it can to make the game–and its equipment–interesting.  In the past, the closest thing baseball has had to direct-marketing was chewing tobacco. Nowadays we have teams pimping the idea of a “boutique bat” in the hopes of getting fans more interested.  However, the games are so long that the fans will hardly come to the stadium to…

There is no question that the Mount Rushmore of baseball from 1995 – 2005 would have featured four PED (performance enhancing drugs) users. How is it, that after a great opening week of the season two of the faces from that era are steaing some headlines about PED’s?  Those two players are none other than all-time greats, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire (Big Mac). During this past off season McGwire finally admitted to the use of steroids and HGH (Human Growth Hormones) during the majority of his career.  He claims that steroids didn’t improve his game; they just helped him…

There is much to be said about the first week of the season for Major League Baseball teams, especially certain players. The season is long, so getting off on the right foot is critical to keeping a high level of optimism. Some teams can afford a little bit of a slow start, like the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals, based on the fact that they have veteran leaders that will pull the team together. Teams who have an outside shot must start fast and maintain their momentum as long as possible. Otherwise, their season could be over…

I apologize for not updating about UFC 112 right as it happened, I just couldn’t find the words.  I was literally stunned into silence after witnessing perhaps the biggest display of arrogance and disrespect I’ve ever seen in the octagon.  I mentioned earlier how important this event was for the UFC.  They were being hosted by Abu Dhabi, a country who had just invested over 100 million dollars to have a 10% stake in the UFC company.  If ever there was a need for a good first impression, this was it.  Up until Anderson Silva graced us with his presence,…

Just thought I’d get this out there, Arianny recently did a cover spread with Maxim Magazine. Here is a taste: The rest of the online pictures can be found here, please do check them out (and there’s a brief interview featured as well). If you want to see more than that, you’ll have to open up the piggy bank and pick up a copy of Maxim.

Like the sign on the door to my gym says, “If it hurts to tie your shoes, you’re doing it right.” Amen. There are plenty of ways to get relief from soreness, such as warm baths with Epsom salts, rest and massage. However, if you want something fast and cheap, stick with me. Have you tried foam rollers? They cost less than a 30-minute massage, last for years, take up almost no space and can be used in your living room, with or without a partner. They’re also wonderful for developing core strength and for stretching, but today we’re going…

I have been lifting for 17 years , cycled on and off for about 11 years, I have hit 250+ lbs with under 11 % body fat. The issue with that is regardless of how lean I get , my face looks fat.  So a few years back I decided that getting around 210 lbs and under 10 % bf was my goal. I adjusted how I lifted , what compounds I used, and many other things. I  realized I am just naturally able to get huge, and decently powerful, but my body ( wear and tear ) would prefer…

The St. Louis Rams went 1-15, locked up the 1st selection in this year’s draft, and cut Marc Bulger. It would seem that they are ready to take Sam Bradford #1 overall. It would also seem that they have painted themselves into a corner. There’s no reason in the world why the Rams wouldn’t take Bradford, but they’ve played their hand.  Everyone on earth seems to know what Billy Devaney –St. Louis’ GM– is going to do. This is reminiscent of the 2007 NBA Draft. Greg Oden was the consensus #1 and Kevin Pritchard –Portland’s GM– spent months trying to…

UFC 112 takes place this Saturday and it has a lot going for it.  It’s the first UFC event to take place in the Middle East and what really makes it stand out is it’s the first outdoor UFC event ever.  The threat of rain has always created pause when an outdoor event was considered before, but those chances are not very likely in the desert.  Again taking place on foreign soil, this is a very important card for the Zuffa brand because its success will have implications on how quickly the sport is actually growing.  If this event is…
