The major league baseball season kicked off inter-league play this week, which reminds me that the only thing more overrated is MTVs The Hills. So what if a couple of New York Mets fans got to arrive at the office on Monday and talk smack to New York Yankees fans. The Yanks are going to make the playoffs, and the Mets will try not to finish in the basement of the NL East. Besides the few big inter-city rivalries like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, does anyone really care? I’m sure the state of Ohio was on the edge of…

I work out in a weight lifter’s gym. There are rows of machines and racks after rack of free weights. Whether you’re sweating it out at home or at the gym, you’ve got to decide whether you want to use free weights, machines or a combination of both. We’ve probably all heard that if you’re serious about weight lifting, you should be using free weights. However, there’s a place for machines in the life of every bodybuilder! What’s the Difference? The simplest definition of a weight machine is “an exercise machine used for weight training that uses gravity as the…

Bodybuilding is not just the art of working out. In fact, if that were true you could slam five Red Bulls, scream “Me Work Out,” and win a competition. Unfortunately for the lazy — it isn’t that easy, True, you will dedicate the bulk of your time to working out, but that doesn’t make you any different from any other professional athlete. Think about how many dudes — and chicks — are ripped, but play sports. I remember I met Garrison Hearst once — former UGA and Giants running back — and he was HUGE. His arms were as wide…

The Supreme Court has ruled that the 32 teams that comprise the NFL are actually separate entities. The high court’s ruling comes after a six-year lawsuit between the NFL and American Needle, a cap manufacturer. In 2004, American Needle sued. The suit stated that the league was engaging in antitrust activities by signing an exclusive 10-year agreement with Reebok in 2001, which extended to all 32 teams, for its headgear. The case has worked its way through all of the lower courts, each loser volleying for a new ruling. When American Needle lost and appealed to the Supreme Court, the…

You may have heard of the primal lifestyle lately. I’ve been writing about CrossFit and P90X over the last couple of months, and you can’t get too deep into researching either without running into talk of a primal diet and exercise pattern. What is the primal lifestyle? While it can be difficult to pin down a precise definition, there are several common tenets. Today we’ll talk about the basics and get in-depth into the diet piece. I’ll be back next week with the exercise and movement portion. What Is Primal? Primal is built around our archetypal caveman ancestor, Grok—a hunter-gatherer…

Canadian doctor Anthony Galea is facing criminal charges from both the United States and Canada for bringing illegal and unapproved drugs across border lines (HGH-Human Growth Hormone and Actovegin). Actovegin, a drug made from calf’s blood, has gained popularity among athletes for its ability to heal the human body with the added benefit of being undetectable in drug tests. Dr. Galea gained notoriety after performing his famous blood spinning technique (platelet-rich plasma therapy) on Tiger Woods to improve his knee following surgery. Besides the world-renowned golfer, Dr. Galea has treated several other high profile athletes from all sports—Alex Rodriguez and Jose…

Lakers’ Head Coach Phil Jackson has a way with words. He’s the “Zen Master.” He makes a living getting in people’s heads. How else can someone coach Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal to a combined 10 NBA titles? Those 3 egomaniacs certainly can’t do it all by themselves. Since Phil convinced Michael to share, convinced Shaq to stand under the rim, and convinced Kobe to acknowledge his team, that must mean he can do anything—right? It doesn’t help that the Phoenix Suns are playing the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals—and their star player isn’t American—he’s Canadian. What…

I was told that I help the community by several people, and I also have been told that I am a low life and many other things ( mostly by people I expose ) . So I ask myself , who should I rely on for accurate interpretation of what I am doing? Well , I don’t listen to either, only one can judge me and that will be on my final day. In the mean time I attempt to do the next right thing, and I must focus on this because all men have the potential to be a scumbag, and…

Many people are familiar with the success that Drew Brees has had over the past couple of seasons. Something people may not know is at the end of the 2006 season, Brees suffered a career threatening injury. On Dec. 31st, 2005, in a game against the Denver Broncos, Brees attempted to recover a fumble and a defensive lineman landed on his shoulder, tearing his labrum. Brees went to Dr. James Andrews for the surgery of lifetime. Andrews had to use 12 dissolvable staples, which is the most he has ever used during surgery. The San Diego Chargers decided to move…

CrossFit is one of the newest crazes in fitness. It’s grueling, relentless and one-size-fits-all to a degree. Group classes are expensive, and injuries are flaunted. So what makes it so popular? As with most fitness programs, there are benefits and drawbacks to CrossFit. Here you will find the good, the bad and the questionable of the program. What It Is CrossFit is hard to pinpoint because it borrows from so many different disciplines. The March 2004 CrossFit Journal describes the program succinctly: “CrossFit is a strength and conditioning system built on constantly varied, if not randomized, functional movements executed at…
