The 2010 MLB Rule 4 First-Year Player Draft begins on June 7th. This 50-round circus is the only draft of any major sport that takes place during the season—but that is not the problem. Some of the major problems are highlighted in a great column by SI’s, Tom Verducci. Verducci states the problems as being the fact that you can’t trade picks, over spending in later rounds, and the drafting of too many high school players. In this draft alone, thousands of kids will never make it to “The Show.” To make things worse, hundreds of these kids drafted aren’t…

Last week we did an introduction to the primal lifestyle and talked about the diet portion. This week we’re going to look at the exercise recommendations and the other aspects of the primal lifestyle like sunshine, sleep and medicines. Primal Fitness There’s no one accepted definition of what exactly primal fitness is. Some people are outside, lifting rocks and hurling sticks. Others are in the gym, doing Crossfit and P90X. That seems to be quite a disparity, but I’m not really sure it is. The principle at the heart of primal fitness is that of “kill or be killed,” which…

We do the best we can to eat well, and that often means limiting the amount of fat we use in cooking. The problem is that fat equals flavor, and we need to replace the flavor that fat provides. We often turn to exotic salts and seasoning blends in search of a replacement, but they can present their own set of problems. Let’s look at the importance of real salt, how to use herbs, and some easy recipes for homemade blends. The Chemical Problem They’re cheap, fast and easy—what’s not to love?  But, there are actually two major problems with…

European Soccer is one of the biggest clusterf***s on Earth. Nothing compares to their multiplicity of leagues, gigantic stacks of cash and spoiled players. Well, it seems that UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) is tired of the stacks of cash and spoiled players. I know the cash and the spoiling come in one package — but roll with me here. UEFA has announced that it will pass rules to curb the excessive spending of certain clubs. Plus, they are going to deal with all the rich playboys who can write off their clubs’ losses with their own money. It’s…

In Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Ricky Bobby’s father says, “Word around town is that I got a crazy son who wants to go fast!” I think that sums up the attitude of pretty much everything in the United States. We want it, and we want it now! That’s the premise of fast food, after all! We’ve all seen how today’s fast food epidemic is affecting us, but where it began was quite different. The Automat They say that necessity is the mother of invention. It seems, in the case of fast food, that transportation is the mother…

One of the biggest questions facing professional athletes is what to do when they retire from the game they’ve played for 30-plus years. For Shaquille O’Neal, that question becomes even larger, given the fact that he is 7 ft tall and weighs 350 lbs. Shaq has said several times that he wants to be a cop in the Miami, Florida, area when he retires. Let’s face it, Shaq is not going to work the 7 p.m. beat in South Beach. Shaq had a short TV interview showing off the martial arts training that he does in the off season. Although…

Summer is upon us and its time for our three favorite B’s – beaches, BBQs and baseball. We have wrapped up the second month of the season, and the pennant races, like the temperature, are heating up. The Boston Red Sox fan base can flip the cover back over the panic button for now winning 7 of 10, including a sweep of the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays. Although the Philadelphia Phillies have been struggling, their ace Roy Halladay gave us the 2nd perfect game of the season against the Florida Marlins. The Los Angeles Angels’ first baseman, Kendry…

The Kansas City Chiefs are a troubled franchise. In the NFL they have sunk to the bottom of the barrel with little hope of rising to the top. Their owner, Lamar Hunt, died and his son took over. They fired Herm Edwards so they could have a shot at a young hotshot–Todd Haley. They hired Scott Pioli away from the Patriots just so he could trade for Matt Cassel. Hell, they even brought back Gunther Cunningham to coach the defense–hereafter known as the “Harbinger of Doom.” Now they have new problems. It seems they have someone who likes to talk. …

The Atlanta Hawks, a 50-win team, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the best record in the league two years running, both fired their coaches this week. Mike Woodson got his walking papers right after the Hawks got swept by the Magic. He improved his team every year for 5 years and still got the boot. After winning Coach of the Year last year, Mike Brown got fired because his Cavs fell to the Celtics in the 2nd Round of the playoffs. He won over 120 games in two seasons and he gets canned. I have my theories on these firings,…
