An al-Qaida militant has been detained by Iraqi police, suspected of planning an attack on the World Cup. The event, which is a month-long tournament to determine the best soccer team in the world, will take place next month in South Africa. Abdullah Azam Saleh al-Qahtani is a former officer in the Saudi army, and is a suspect in several terrorist attacks within Iraq, including two suicide bombings south of Baghdad. Al-Qahtani has reportedly been recruited by Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is second in command to Osama bin Laden. Al-Qahtani is said to be the security chief for his local branch…
The mercury is rising, and meteorologists predict that this summer will be one of the hottest on record. While it would be easy to break out the Haagen-Dazs, go with the sugar flow, we can do better. Much, much better. No sacrifice is needed. You can still have the sweet treats you crave, but there is a better way than just going to the freezer case of your local megamart. With a little planning and a few easy recipes, you’ll be living the good life your way. As Candace Flynn says in the S’Winter episode of Phineas and Ferb, “Crushed…
Brian Cushing was a big contributor to the Houston Texans enjoying their first winning season in franchise history. Cushing’s rookie season was remarkable. He had 133 tackles, was named 2nd Team All-Pro and won Defensive ROY (rookie of the year) honors (and retained the award in a re-vote). All of that changed when the league recently announced that Cushing failed a test last September, violating the league’s drug policy. Cushing will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2010 NFL season. It wasn’t shocking to some people in southern California to hear that Cushing had failed. For…
The two worst sports towns in America are Cleveland and Salt Lake City. They’ve earned this dubious honor for completely different reasons, but they both deserve it. You could argue that Atlanta with its fair-weather fans or Kansas City, which is pure haplessness, are worse, but they don’t hold a candle to Cleveland and Salt Lake. Nothing can be as bad as what I’m about to describe. On one hand, we have a city that seems to have the wrong expectations, the wrong ideals and the wrong perspective. On the other hand, we have a city where “dreams go to…
Earlier we reported that Abdullah Azam Saleh al-Qahtani was arrested in Iraq for a plot to commit terror at the World Cup. There was speculation, based on known a jihadist website, that the attack would be planned on England‘s match with the United States. New information reveals that the plan was hatched late last year, with al-Qahtani and some friends desiring to take revenge on the Western media for its depictions of the prophet Muhammad. The plan was to target the Dutch and Danish teams and, “if they couldn’t get to the teams, get to the fans” using car bombs…
Do you remember the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Toula says, “My dad believed in two things: That Greeks should educate non-Greeks about being Greek and every ailment from psoriasis to poison ivy can be cured with Windex.” Well, perhaps Windex isn’t the miracle cure of the world, but something just as cheap and readily available might well be. It’s a food. No, it’s a medicine. No, it’s a cleaner. Actually, it’s all of those! One of the most versatile products on the planet for your health is also one of the most humble. Say hello to apple cider…
The competition level is at an all-time high in professional sports. Every player, trainer and organization are searching for an edge. In the past 15 years, players have turned to steroids and supplements seeking a physical leg up on the competition. With the leagues throwing road blocks down most of those avenues, scientists continue designing ways for athletes to attain the perfect body. MensBest.com is promoting a product called Force Factor that is supposed to be a healthier and safer alternative to steroids. It may be an alternative, but to say it’s safer only suggests that the people who use steroids…
Sea vegetables aren’t exactly one of the most-consumed foods in America, but perhaps they should be. After all, they pack a powerful nutritional punch, as well as adding a salty flavor to anything you care to put them in. With the number of seaweed products on the market, it’s not always easy to know what’s best for any given application, so I’ve got some ideas for you! Why Eat Sea Veggies? Sea vegetables, also known as seaweed, grow in both saltwater and fresh water seas and lakes. They usually grow close to the surface of the water, near reefs and…
Weightlifting, to me, is one of the most incredible things you can possibly witness. Anybody who lifts bars that are—in many cases—many times their body weight, is just impressive. The mental and physical strength required of a weightlifter is immense, and I think we can all appreciate the sheer beauty of the sport. There’s something magical about watching someone perform “improbable” feats of strength. If you’re a fan of the “World’s Strongest Man” competition, then you should come on down and enjoy weightlifting as well. These guys do the same thing—without planes strapped to their backs. How do these people…
Rajon Rondo led the Boston Celtics to a 2-2 tie in their 2nd Round series with LeBron’s Cavs. If the Cavs are so great, then why are they having a problem with a team filled with geezers? Every time I turn around, I hear about how the Cavs are the best team in the league — but now they are playing with fire against Boston. I think LeBron is looking for an out. He needs a reason to leave Cleveland so he doesn’t have to be the bad guy. Remember, his mother bought him a Hummer with a loan based…
