Posted by Buffness at GymJunkies.com, very good info on Thyroid, read up. Take a minute and look around your house, apartment, dorm room or prison cell. If you’ve been involved in the iron game long enough, you’ll probably have dozens of informational guides scattered around: books, copies of T-mag, your nutrition and training logs, a worn out VHS tape of Pumping Iron, a pair of lacy panties that are, for some inexplicable reason, stuck to the ceiling… no wait, that’s my apartment. Nevermind. So why not add a handbook about one of your favorite glands to your collection? After all,…
The WEC 41 Payout continues to support the fact that, the best fighters don’t always make the most money. Jens Pulver, was not a headliner and who was submitted early in the first round by Josh Grispi, actually made the most money bring bringing home $31,253. Urijah Faber, who also lost made less than Pulver, but still made more than Mike Brown who defended his title against Faber. The rest of the payouts are below. Just remember that these figures don’t include any of the sponsorships or other payments the fighters receive. Champ Mike Brown: $25,256 (includes $13,000 win bonus) def.…
The rest of the fight, round-for-round, saw Brown trying to get his gloves on Faber, but not sticking anything substantial. Faber threw countless frontkicks and pushkicks and a bevy of elbows, but also couldn’t score a knockout blow. The fight didn’t go to the ground very much, which isn’t surprising. Both fighters tried a few submissions, the guillotine being the favorite, but Faber couldn’t lock his broken hands together and was just too evasive for Brown to utilize any type of fight-ending ground-and-pound. This fight was a classic strength vs speed matchup. Both fighters landed some good strikes and nearly-successful…
Some of you may have already heard, but on May 23, 2009 it was announced that Forrest Griffin will be winning the very first Tequila Cazadores Authentic Spirit Award for his work and contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. The UFC will give an award out each month to a fighter who “demonstrates either social responsibility, dedication to the art of MMA, or good sportsmanship” according to the UFC website. The winner will receive a plaque and 1,000 dollars to go to the charity of their choice. As the awards continue the fighter with the most outstanding spirit will receive…
Jake Shields (EV, 5Dimes) vs Robbie Lawler (-115, Sportsbook) Jake Shields was the EliteXC welterweight champion with great wrestling and sick jujitsu. He is on just about everybody’s top 10 welterweight lists and is coming in to fight Lawler at a 182lbs catch-weight. He is on a current 11 fight win streak and is moving up to middleweight due to the fact that he can’t find much welterweight competition outside of the UFC. He has a pretty straight forward game plan, get to the ground and submit Lawler, and don’t get knocked out in the process. Lawler was the EliteXC…
For those of you living in a basement tied up with rubber tubing and bondage tape, the newest UFC video game, “UFC 2009, Undisputed” is now on the market and available for purchase at your nearest video game outlet. The short and curly of it is that this game is one of the greatest ever, but beware some of the quirks. I waited months for this game and was able to get a copy the day it was made available. I have to tell you how great this game is. I had this thing in my xbox for two days.…
Mike Brown (+115, Sportsbook) vs Urijah Faber (-105, 5Dimes) This is a title fight in the featherweight division whose lines look very off to me. First, we have Urijah Faber, the face of the WEC. He is a very reckless fighter that comes in with no game plan and just does whatever he feels like. He has gotten away with it through sheer talent, fitness, and well rounded skill set. Then there is Mike Brown, a talented wrestler with very technical boxing skills. He is also extremely strong. He was noted as being strong for a lightweight and now he…
As we start, the two teams are neck and neck at 4 apiece, and the fighters are being chosen for the episode. A very exciting change was posed by UFC President, Dana White, that each team have two fighters square off against one of their teammates, this being the semi-finals. This would ensure an American against a Brit, guaranteed, in the finals. Team captains have mixed feelings, with Bisbing a little miffed that there is no longer a chance of an all-Brit final round. After the first commercial, Pierce’s loyalty came into question after he was called out for spending…

I’ll give everyone a hint, his MMA record is 13-5-1. By far, the most overrated fighter in MMA history is (Drum Roll)……………. BJ Penn! The casual MMA fan (not the die-hard, knows every stat for every fighter fan) would have probably figured a guy with BJ Penn’s notoriety would have a much more impressive record. Especially given Penn’s high rankings in countless MMA pound for pound lists and the amount of publicity given to him by the UFC. Don’t get me wrong, no one can argue with Penn’s numerous accomplishments in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and even grappling for that matter.…
