So the battle of words is starting well before any fight will start, but the fight will happen, there are 100 million reasons why.
If you follow me on Twitter then thank you! You also read one of my tweets yesterday that came right after I read the following headline on the ESPNews ticker “Bills contact Bill Cowher and he declines.” The Tweet said something like “The Bills are so far beneath Bill Cowher that the 9th level of hell does not adequately describe their lowliness in comparison to him.” Yeah, I did it, I used the “9th level of hell” reference in an athletic context, but it’s true. The Bills are beneath Bill Cowher…they just are. Now, if I had heard something like…
I always knew it was an excellent idea to take a walk after eating during the holidays. When I say “eating during the holidays” I am talking about eating more than I usually do because of all the eats and treats involved during holiday celebration. My family faithfully took a walk after each Thanksgiving dinner. Those walks were pleasurable memories where we’d all be together enjoying the fall colors and misty fog. The walks eased our guilty conscience of over indulging. I came across an excellent idea at a website called Atlantis Fitness. In an article it talks about…
This is a fairly straightforward question. Junk food or healthy, clean food? It’s not a hard one, but so many people don’t know the answer to it. They stuff their faces with cakes and tinned sausages, and then have the nerve to turn around and ask, ‘Why am I fat?’ It’s not an exact science – you eat more, you gain more. It’s basic, and one of the simplest fundamentals of bodybuilding. But, let me ask you the question anyway – do you know the right kind of food to eat? I personally believe you do. If you have the…
There is a new contender in the UFC’s welterweight division. With a convincing win over Mike Swick at UFC 105, Dan Hardy is next in line to go toe to toe with a man who many consider to be the best pound for pound mixed martial artist in the world, Geroge St. Pierre. Even though Hardy is on a four fight win streak in the UFC, critics say Hardy has yet to prove himself enough to be the number one contender. Guys like Josh Koscheck pay Hardy little respect and feel that his title shot is a bit premature. Hardy…
“Never let a fight go to the judges” is a common stigma amongst fighters. The boxing scoring system has been a part of MMA ever since mixed martial arts adapted its modern rules in 1999 when the International Sport Combat Federation became the first sanctioning body. While the sport needed regulation, they certainly could have used a better system to decide decision victories. As evidenced by the controversial judging decisions in two of the last three UFC main events, this has been a problem. A scoring system wasn’t always necessary. Back in the old days, nearly every fight was finished…
Many people class nuts as the ‘bad foods’ which contain a lot of fat. Yes, they contain a lot of fat but also the mono-saturated fats that the body craves. This is extremely important and helps the body to function at an optimum level. When essential fatty acids are consumed, the body can work on shifting the bad fats in the body. We all require fat in our body to protect organs, keep us warm, and give the skin a healthy glow. For those people who need to lose weight and reduce their daily calorie consumption, nut varieties and peanut/almond/pumpkin…
With the hyped return of Tito Ortiz to competition derailed by a very game Forrest Griffin, I can’t help but notice a growing trend in the UFC; you really can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the call to arms for fans of the Hall of Fame hopeful’s chance to prove they’ve still got it. And in so many cases they do come out and fight their fight, regardless of inactivity or age. The sad truth, however, is while they were vacationing and doing publicity junkets, MMA passed them by. Tito…
Mauer earned 27 of 28 first-place votes by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees finished second and third, respectively, and Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera earned the other first-place vote and finished fourth. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was named the American League’s 2009 Most Valuable Player today, becoming the fifth league MVP in team history. The fourth, 2006 winner and former roommate Justin Morneau, brought him something to celebrate. “Right now we’re at the Metrodome,” Mauer said in a conference call this afternoon. “He came up with a bottle of champagne.…
Once one of the proudest and winningest traditions in the history of college football, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have seemingly been in tatters the past decade plus. The school is laced with Heisman Trophy winners, seven in all, tied with Ohio State and USC for the most in college football history. However, even that has seemingly fallen on hard times, as wide receiver Tim Brown was the last recipient for the Irish, more than two decades ago. Saturday may have been the final nail in the coffin of coach Charlie Weis in his five year tenure with the school.…
