Preliminary play is underway in Vancouver and Team Russia is looking to erase more than two decades of frustration as they seek a gold medal performance here in the 2010 Winter Olympics after a string of disappointments. In the ten Winter Olympiads spanning from 1956 to 1992, Russia was dominant. Under the old USSR regime, they won eight gold medals in that span, derailed just twice. Both times came at the hands of the Americans, in 1960 and of course the Miracle on Ice in 1980. They took silver in 1960 and bronze in 1980, giving them medals in ten…
[topsy_retweet_big]At 11am EST on February 20th 2010 Tiger Woods made his first public appearance since the unexplainable Thanksgiving destruction derby. Woods gathered friends, family, and selected members of the media for this highly anticipated press conference. The most impressive part of this entire process was that the golf writers association decided to boycott this event. The prepared speech was reported to be five – seven minutes long, but it actually ran for over 13 minutes. The Woods appearance was broadcasted on four different major networks, similar to the State of the Union Address. It has been more than 24 hours…
Tiger Woods had his little “confession” today, and now I want some real answers. Tiger made a “blah” statement, and he didn’t take any questions. “Tiger, if I may be so bold…” Would You Like To Clarify… …why you chose to hold this press conference in the middle of the Accenture Match Play? Are still mad at Accenture for dropping you? I can understand being a little peeved–even hurt–but you’re stepping on the toes of every golfer in the tournament by dropping into the middle of THEIR event. If you were playing the Accenture that would be one thing, but…
My chiropractor swears by eating raw food. He says it keeps him happy and healthy. He does look healthy and seems happy. I personally like to eat cooked food every now and then. I can’t image eating only raw food. I’d miss out on holiday meals and trips to the frozen yogurt shop. Raw Foodie I came across an interview with raw food bodybuilder Stephen Arlin at Living and Raw Food. Arlin’s perspective on natural bodybuilding is worth considering. He also wrote a book entitled Raw Power! It is the only book about building strength and muscles naturally the raw way. I like…
Surely only one team can prosper in this group – and it’s nearly definitely going to be Italy. Although they’re maybe not as good as they were when they won the last world cup, they’re definitely the most powerful team in this group. And against the likes of New Zealand, they look even better. Will they win again? Maybe. Will they get through to the next round? Definitely. Group F Italy Current World Ranking: 4 In typical italian fashion, this olive-loving nation secured the top place in a overly dramatic fashion – equalizing with Ireland in the last minute of…
The NBA trade deadline is approaching, some moves have already happened and some are rumored to get done before the 11th hour. Trading players in the NBA seems to be similar to buying and selling in the stock market. I have a vague understanding of Wall Street and only slightly better knowledge of trading contracts and salary caps. However, I do have solid comprehension of what the impact will be when the player lands in his new destination. Some teams couldn’t be more obvious about giving up on the season and trying to increase their chances to get more ping…
As preliminary pool play for men’s hockey begins in earnest during the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Swedish national team comes to western Canada with swagger and focus. The Swedes are the defending gold medal winners, knocking off arch rival Finland in the gold medal game in Torino back in 2006. Former NHL players Mats Naslund and Bengt-Åke Gustafsson are intent on keeping Sweden on top here in Vancouver. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) currently has them ranked third behind Russia and Canada. Expect Sweden to do whatever they can in order to try and repeat as gold medalists when…
Orthorexia–ever heard of it? I came upon this term about 18 months ago when someone accused me of being orthorexic. The person didn’t know me, but thought I had the condition when I had the audacity to suggest (upon being asked) that organic fruits and veggies are better for her health than so-called Healthy Choice meals. The nerve of me. The “Condition” For the record, orthorexia means “fixation on righteous eating”. What’s so wrong with that? I’m starting to think that the fixation that’s the problem is other people focusing on my healthy eating. Another aspect of this “disorder” that…
Let’s just take a quick peek at the cost of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games: Overall estimated costs: $2.5 billion Security: $900 million Media Center: $880 million Opening Ceremony: $30-40 million NBC paid $820 million for the broadcast rights to the Vancouver games. They estimate that they’ll lose around $250 million due to the high cost of the rights and the relatively low advertising revenue this time of year. I find this interesting, since they took an undisclosed loss on the 2008 Beijing Games, and yet bought the rights for both 2010 and 2012 for a total of $2 billion.…
I watched the movie trailer for Black Dynamite and drooled over Michael Jai White. He stars in the 1970′s-style blaxploitation action film about the legendary super crime fighter. The DVD hits the streets this week. White’s charismatic physic comes from training in martial arts for more than 20 years. He owns black belts in six styles: Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do, Kobud, Goju Ryu, Tang Soo Do, Wushu and Kyokushin. Martial Arts Man These days he practices and teaches the Kyokushin style. According to an interview he did with Ethan Alter of Giant, Kyokushin is the most popular style of karate…
