Womens MMA is on the rise. Could it be that the major demographic for MMA is 18-34 year old men? I would say so. We love fighting and we love women. What a fantastic combination, like beer and pizza. The self proclaimed “Karate Hottie”, Michelle Waterson has done a great job of continuing this quest to bring womens MMA closer to being a mainstream form of entertainment. Who better than a former Hooters girl, to bring attention and excitement to the ring or cage. I give props to the Gina Caranos, Michelle Watersons and the Cris Cyborgs of the world.…
I have to say, I wish more MMA fights were as exciting as this girl fight. This female MMA fight definitely held my attention and I thought it was more action packed than 90% of all MMA fights. These girls deserve to be recognized for the contribution they are making to the sport of MMA. Here is how the fight went down. Round 1 Kelly Kobald comes out in the first round aggressively trying to take Gina Carano down. Gina’s take down defense if excellent, probably from her training time at Extreme Couture, and evades each attempt. The round ends…
Sorry everyone out there in YouTube land but Kimbo is not what you would like him to be. He was knocked out quite quickly by a real MMA fighter, Seth Petruzelli, who showed up to watch Kimbo’s fight with Ken Shamrock and ended up stepping in the ring, with no prior notice, to replace Shamrock who suffered a cut over his eye while training prior to the match. Street fighting is different than MMA and that is the bottom line. MMA has well trained athletes who are physically, mentally and technically better than most street fighters. In my opinion, Petruzelli…
Gina Carano, MMA’s most adored female Mixed Martial Artist had to take it all off to make weight for her fight with Kelly Kobald. Unfortunately for all the men and probably some women out there, there was a towel held around her to block the view. Had the towel dropped, it could have started a YouTube sensation bigger than the world has ever seen. Gina maintained her mysteriousness and sex symbol status and weighed in at 141 lbs, making weight and getting her shot at Kelly Kobald who also weighted in at 141lbs. Kimbo Slice weighed in at 234.5 lbs…
From the Broomfield Event Center, starting at 7 PM, Strikeforce will be holding an MMA event with some interesting fighters. Most notable, because of her good looks is the 22 year old Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson, a former bikini model that stared in the reality TV show “Fight Girls” She will be taking on Tyra Parker. Also, Frank”Twinkle Toes” Trigg, a well know independent fighter and fight commentator will be rematching the a Submission artist named Falaniko Vitale. Phill “The New York Badass” Baroni will also be stepping in the ring tonight at 170 lbs, to face “King” James Martinez,…
Many people are scratching their heads and wondering why boxing is trying to latch onto MMA, which has been seen in the past, by many people in the boxing industry, to be an inferior sport. Oscar De La Hoya, owner of Golden Boy Productions explains his point of view regarding his recent integration with Affliction. Of course, like most things usually do, it all comes back to money.
It is commonly considered that lower back injury and pain are caused by overtraining. Yet, pain in the lower parts of the spine is more often a result of our regular activities. Sitting is the major cause of the difficulty. Sitting puts even greater strain on the spinal column than standing. The increased force is not that bad, though. The problem is we have to sit in the poorest posture for hours at a time – leaning forward. What happens, when we are sitting forward leaning? When we lean forward, the edges of spinal vertebrae get closer, jamming cartilaginous discs.…
Everybody keeps talking about Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Why? What is so great about him? Well, maybe it is the fact that he almost effortlessly picks apart every single opponent he has faced. He has an amazingly fluid style that somehow finds the holes in his opponents’ armor. While many fighters look like they are swimming when they punch and kick, Anderson Silva looks more like he is shooting a gun. Strikes are fired off with quickness and accuracy, rarely changing his body positioning and keeping him prepared for another attack. He is so fast and accurate that it is…
Intensive physical training weakens the immune system of bodybuilders, resulting in chronic infection in the throat. Tonsils can’t perform their function of keeping bacteria off and become infectious themselves. Infectious tonsils cause a disease called chronic tonsillitis. Studies show that tonsillitis occurs in athletes because of the common decrease in the resistance of mucous lining of the throat. The Effect of Tonsillitis on Cardiovascular System Professional athletes usually had their tonsils out deliberately, and there is a reason for it. Eventually, 85-95% of people with tonsillitis experience the pathological changes in their cardiovascular system. Moreover, almost the half of them…
