Helpful Tips For Losing Weight
Often when we go on a diet, we are quick to give up before we see results. Weight loss first starts with being able to change what is occurring in the mind. We have already begun participating in self-defeating behaviour when we begin making excuses for not following through with our diet. We begin telling ourselves that we do not have what it takes to be successful at losing weight.
When we begin participating in negative self-talk, we set ourselves up for failure. We also begin blaming others for our own downfalls. We might blame our body for the inability to lose weight because we have a slow metabolism. We may even involve blaming our spouse, by stating that we can’t lose weight because of the foods they prepare.
As you can see, a whole whirlwind of problems begin taking place because of this negative self-talk and faulty belief system. This is why it is of utmost importance to change the way we think prior to starting a weight loss plan.
Regular exercise and a healthy diet are the main factors in actually losing weight. And you could even try weight loss products such as weight loss tea to help you lose weight faster. But since the mind is partly responsible for our ability to lose weight, let’s look into the common misconceptions we have when we begin a weight loss program.
Not knowing what weight loss entails
In the initial stages of weight loss, we begin feeling exhilarated and are motivated to lose weight. Then as the first few weeks go by, we begin losing stamina. This is because the newness of the diet has worn off, and now we are stuck with reality. We begin noticing that the diet is harder then we thought it would be and we begin to doubt our motivation.
This is when you need to find the underlying reason for why you want to lose weight. Are you doing it because everyone else is? Are you doing it because you want to fit in with the skinny people? Or are you doing it because you realise that the life you are living is one that has a shorter life span attached to it.
The point here is that you will only be successful in your weight loss goals when your heart and your mind are in agreement with one another. There has to be no doubts in your head or your heart about what you can and cannot do. You have to arrive at the realization that although it will be tough, and a lifestyle change is required, it will be well worth it in the end when you stick to it.
Set realistic goals
The problem we have when we start dieting is that we believe that the only way to lose weight is by setting unrealistic goals for ourselves. There is a belief that there is no room for error. This faulty belief needs to be nipped in the bud. Everyone is human; we all make mistakes from time to time.
When we think that the only way we can be successful at weight loss is by being overly strict with ourselves, we are setting ourselves up for failure.
This isn’t a race
Another common misconception we have about losing weight is that we expect to lose weight quickly. This philosophy works against us in a number of ways. Not only do we increase our chances of gaining back the weight we lose, when it is lost quickly, but we also sacrifice our health when we do it in an unhealthy way.
The body is designed to hold onto fat and use it when it needs it. This is what makes it difficult to lose weight.
We need to educate ourselves more about how the mind plays a big part in being able to lose weight. The better we understand the reason behind why our bodies store fat, the better we understand how and why we can lose weight successfully.
