Troy Glaus Received Anabolic Steroids From Signature Pharmacy in 2003 and 2004

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman, Troy Glaus was sent multiple shipments of anabolic steroids from an internet pharmacy at the center of a major performance-enhancing drug distribution ring involving bogus prescriptions dispensed over the internet. According to the Sports Illustrated, Glaus received multiple shipments of nandrolone and testosterone between September 2003 and May 2004 while he was a member of the Los Angeles (then California) Angels of Anaheim.

A source in Florida with knowledge of the client list of Signature Pharmacy, an Orlando-based compound pharmacy, alleges that between September 2003 and May 2004, multiple shipments of nandrolone and testosterone were sent to Glaus at a Corona, Calif., address that traces to the player.

Glaus’s steroids were prescribed by physician, Ramon Scruggs, dispensed through New Hope Health Center (newhopemed.com), a California-based anti-aging clinic that advertises the sale of anabolic steroids and human growth hormones on its website. The prescription was again filled by Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, Florida, a compound pharmacy at the center of raids in February 2007.

Scruggs has been on probation since shortly after the raids on Signature Pharmacy and Applied Pharmacy Services in February.

According to the Medical Board of California, as of March 2007, Scruggs has been on probation and is prohibited from prescribing drugs over the internet. He also was reportedly involved in a lawsuit with Mobile-based Applied Pharmacy, which, ironically, was the subject of a previous multi-agency raid.

Both nandrolone and testosterone were banned by Major League Baseball when Glaus is said to have received them. It should be stated that the evidence cited by SI shows Glaus ordered and received anabolic steroids but there is no direct evidence the he used them. MLB began testing its players for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003 (anonymously) and with punishments in 2004.

Messages left for Glaus with the Blue Jays and through his agent by Sports Illustrated seeking comment were not returned.
