MMAFrenzy is reporting,
`CSAC Upholds Antonio Silva Steroid Suspension, Fine`

The California State Athletic Commission today upheld the one-year suspension of EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva following an appeals hearing.

Silva, who claimed the newly-created title with a second-round TKO of Justin Eilers in July, tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone following his July victory.

Several pieces of evidence were submitted by Silva during today’s hearing, including a negative steroid test conducted one month after the initial test as well as evidence that he is unable to safely take steroids due to an existing medical condition and that he was taking a supplement known to cause false positives for Boldenone.

The evidence was not compelling enough, however, for the CSAC to overturn the result, as the commission voted unanimously voted 5-0 to uphold the one-year suspension and $2,500 fine.

I love watching any kind of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) bouts, and not because they are a civil sporting event. Though there is a lot of respect normally between the competitors but its a sport where your trying to hurt the other person as badly as possible in 9-15 minutes, or better yet knock him out. So when Antonio Silva turns up positive for steroids its uncouth to the governing body CSAC but the beating of each other in the July match-up wasn’t. The idea that they’re allowed to put their brain through the beating it takes in an average fight but not to their body doesn’t sit right with me. To be honest I highly doubt it’s because it gives the user a huge advantage strength wise and can cause a very lopsided fight or in other cases levels the field for an inferior opponent, because ass whoopings get better ratings. So either it’s the fact that steroids are illegal in this country or their concerned with the health of their fighters. Funny enough, I don’t buy either one so what can it be? Maybe it is the stigma associated with steroids because of a generalized view that all steroids are the same, or the fact that the lack of actual knowledge of steroids is so meager that they believe the ignorant myths placed on anabolic steroids. This would mean that they are more interested with what the public believes is true then what actually becomes of these athletes years from now when they can barely say their own name ( has anyone watched Mr. Ali walk or talk in the last few years). So why don’t we call it what it is, a suspension for attempting to hurt the governing body’s public opinion, not for trying to hurt themselves or hurting their opponent more then they would have before the use of steroids. It amazes me that many in this country have such a cockeyed view of what is right and what is wrong, beating each other into oblivion is acceptable, the use of steroids isn’t. My view, let Antonio Silva fight and if he is willing to risk his own health to better his career, I say let him inject away. It is time we ask ourselves what our true intentions are before we do them, because if we can’t be honest with ourselves then who can we be honest with? It is just my opinion, no matter how right I think I am.
